“Don’t Touch My Hair” an immersive art experience

Our team was honored to help bring the rich history of Black women’s hair to life—from before chattel slavery to the present—for the immersive art exhibit, Don’t Touch My Hair, produced by Ayana Morris.

We developed the creative concepts for each era, handcrafted costumes, and provided photography. Our founder served as Assistant Creative Director and hosted conversations at live events in New Jersey and during Miami Art Basel.

The exhibit explored eight eras:

  • Community: Before slavery

  • Bondage: 1619–1865

  • Escape: 1800s

  • Assimilation: 1910s–1940s

  • Resistance: 1950s

  • Survival: 1970s

  • Revival: 1980s–early 2000s

  • Embrace: Present day
